Who did I work with to compose my project? Was this a good approach?
I worked with myself to compose my project. This was a good approach. What was the most difficult part of my writing process? Why? What did I do to overcome the obstacles? The most difficult part of my writing process was time management because my personal life is very hectic. To overcome the obstacle, I sat down and started writing as soon as I got free time. When did I write this project? Good approach? I wrote this project later than I should I have. It wasn’t a good approach. Where did I write this project? Good approach? I wrote this project at home. It wasn’t a good approach because I wasn’t able to focus as much as I would’ve if I wrote it at a library or at school. Why did I choose to write about my chosen topic? I choose to write about my chosen topic because I am very big on trust. I think trust is very important and a very delicate thing to give someone. How will I adapt/revise my writing process for future revision of this project? In the future if I chose to revise this project I will manage my time better and write somewhere other than home.

ENG 100 Assignment #3: Film-Based Argument March 23, 2017 Are People Trustworthy? In the film, Survivor, screenwriter Philip Shelby writes about Kate Abbott’s struggles with saving America from a terrorist attack. Abbott is a secret service agent who learns of a plot where a sniper will shoot a gas bomb in Times Square in an attempt to kill innocent civilians. In the beginning of the movie, just after the first bombing that killed Abbott’s friends, we find out that the sniper is also out to get Abbott. Once she discovers that the first bombing at the restaurant was planned and just the beginning of the horrific attack yet to come, she became a threat to the terrorist and the sniper (The Watchmaker). At that point, Abbott’s own life and millions of others lives were on the line but she was determined to save the world from a terrorist attack. Kate Abbott went through many obstacles throughout the movie because she didn’t know who to trust or who was on her side. If you were in that position, how would you determine who to trust? What criteria would you use in that situation or your daily life to determine who is worth trusting? Everyone uses different criteria to determine who they should and should not trust. Abbott should have used good judgment, asking questions and watched people’s actions. In the movie I think Abbott used all three as a way to determine who to trust. In my opinion, I think she did everything right. Determining who to trust can be very difficult and frustrating because trust is very delicate and must be handled with care. One thing Abbott did when determining who to trust was use good judgment. When the bombing happened at the restaurant where Abbott was supposed to be, she knew something wasn’t right. She did what she should have and went with her gut feeling about the incident. Luckily, Abbott used her good judgment and started to investigate only to find out she is now being hunted by a notorious sniper/bomber. At that moment, trust became very scarce. Abbott couldn’t even trust her own boss or colleagues, everything changed. Often times, people go against their better judgment when it comes to trusting people. Abbott was unsure who to trust and who would actually help, thankfully, her instincts were right. I’m sure everyone has heard the saying “actions speak louder than words”. What a person does means much more than what they say. In some cases people overlook what someone actions may be telling them, putting themselves in difficult situations. After Kate Abbott realized she was being hunted by a killer, she began to pay attention to everyone’s actions. Actions play a significant role in trusting someone. The way a person talks to you, eye contact, body language, and the way they respond to situations are all things that should be paid close attention to. Paying attention to actions was one of the things that saved millions of people and Abbott’s life. After the bombing when Abbott ran into Bill she noticed his actions were very suspicious. Abbott saw that Bill’s body language was off and he wouldn’t answer any of her questions. Once she realized how Bill was acting and responding to the things she was saying, she knew she couldn’t trust him. Using someone’s actions as criteria to determine if they’re trustworthy can be very helpful. If a person is acting a certain way or giving off a certain vibe, you should go with your instinct. Many people find that asking questions are a way of getting to know someone. When you’re trying to get to know someone and determine if you should trust them, asking questions are important. Throughout the whole movie Abbott did nothing but ask questions. She questions every move made by herself, the bomber, her colleagues and practically everyone around her. Asking questions got Abbott very far in the movie and would have gotten her very far in her daily life as well. From each question you ask you learn a little, weather you know it or not. Questioning is about learning something new, it doesn’t hurts to ask regardless of the situation. Abbott questioned why Bill did what he did, why the terrorist came to America to get revenge, why The Watchmaker was after her, and why some of her colleagues didn’t believe her about the terrorist attack. Asking questions is never a bad thing especially when you’re putting your trust on the line. In conclusion, everyone has their own criteria for what it takes to trust someone. I think Kate Abbott used the perfect criteria when it came to who she should trust. Abbott’s and the world’s lives were on the line, Abbott went through everything possible to stop a horrible attack that almost took place. Having people she could trust is what helped Abbott the most. I chose this prompt because trust is very important in our daily lives. Kate Abbott ultimate moves and decisions came down to, who and what to trust. Purpose: To persuade Audience: Classmates, blog visitors Focus: To introduce and elaborate on the things Kate Abbott could've done to determine who was trustworthy Style: Argumentative The movie Survivor is an action packed movie that took place in London. It follows the story line of the main character Kate Abbott (Mila Jovovich) who becomes a Diplomatic Service agent after most of her friends died in 9/11. While out at a restaurant for a friend’s birthday with employees from work the restaurant is bombed, but Abbott survives because of a last minute decision. After investigating the bombing it is discovered by Abbott that the bomber is the Watchmaker, and she is now his target. The movie follows Abbott as she learns more and more of the dangerous plan set to take place in Times Square on New Year’s Eve as she’s being hunted by a notorious, wanted killer and British authorities. While it was extremely difficult and challenging, Abbott managed to save the world from a terrorist attack.
I thought Survivor was a great movie that I would watch again. I have to admit that I wouldn’t have normally watched it if I saw it on Netflix but I’m glad I did. I would recommend the movie to others to watch. Kate Abbott: [answering the phone] Hello? Sam Parker: I always liked your instincts. Kate Abbott: Oh, Sam, you're alive! Sam Parker: Yeah. You, too, from what I hear. Kate Abbott: Mostly. So I guess this is what we're doing with our lives. Sam Parker: Yeah, it is. Kate, there were over a million people out there tonight, and you saved them all. Nero Franks, Trevor: The fire works in Dubai... that was you, wasn't it? Nash: [stabs him in the ear] You shouldn't have asked about that thing in Dubai. Nash: Kate... Kate Abbott: Times up! [stamps on his hands making him slide down and over a sky scraper roof plunging into Times Square far below] |
